Combining Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Tui Na Massage or Reiki to speed up healing

Why combine Acupuncture & Tui Na?

Acupuncture and Tui Na are important parts of the age-old system of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which also includes Moxibustion, Cupping, Herbal Medicine and Qi Gung. The advantage of combining Acupuncture and Tui Na in a treatment is that it can greatly enhance and speed up the healing process.

The aim is to promote a feeling of both emotional and physical well-being, thereby strengthening the body and mind. Based on the system of the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) its aim is to energise and restore balance to the associated organ and meridians, and thereby liberate powerful healing forces within the body. You will usually feel relaxed but energised after the treatment.

Both Acupuncture and Tui Na may be used as prevention, maintenance or healing specific ailments ranging from muscle pain, sciatica and sports injuries, to insomnia, anxiety, headaches and menopausal symptoms, to name a few.

The use of Reiki to compliment Acupuncture is also very beneficial, as it allows the body and mind to deeply relax and heal.

What is Traditional Chinese Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient form of practice where thin solid disposable needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points along the energy pathways (meridians). This removes blockages to the flow of energy, thus restoring balance. Acupuncture works by stimulating the body to heal itself. Treatment can balance your body and mind, restore harmony and put everything back in tune, reinstating the natural balance of your mental, physical and emotional functions. One effect of your acupuncture treatment is the release of Endorphins (body chemicals sometimes called ‘Happy Hormones’), thus making you feel more relaxed and balanced after a treatment.

What is Tui Na – Traditional Chinese Medical Massage?

Tui Na massage can be a vigorous or soothing deep treatment where manual pressure is applied to the meridians and specific points on them. The massage and manipulation works on stimulating the flow of Qi so it moves freely and evenly through the body, thereby allowing the body to naturally heal itself. The major focus of application is upon specific pain sites, muscles and joints but also at a deeper level, using the same principles as acupuncture, to balance the patient’s energy.

Tui Na massage have various techniques and manipulations, which have been developed for certain conditions and aim to relax the muscles, ease acute or chronic pain and promote free flow of Qi. Tui Na massage can benefit various conditions from muscular tension/ pain and sports injuries to headaches and digestive problems. In China, Tui Na therapists treat conditions that, in the West, would be treated by osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists, or with drugs.

What happens in a session?

At your initial appointment you will be asked various questions about your health, lifestyle and symptoms to determine the most beneficial course of treatment. Each patient is unique and will be assessed to see if a combination of Acupuncture and Tui Na will benefit them. If both Acupuncture and Tui Na is deemed suitable, fine disposable needles will be inserted into acupuncture points along the meridians. The needles can be left in for about 20-40 minutes while you will be laying on a coach. Tui Na massage will either be performed during, before or after the acupuncture, depending on the presenting symptoms. The Acupuncture and Tui Na treatment can also be combined with Moxibustion and/or Cupping if appropriate.
