About Baby & Toddler Gentle Touch Reflexology
Baby & Toddler Gentle Touch Reflexology can help with many ailments typical of this stage, such as colic, colds, teething and sleeping problems. These techniques are feather light in touch and are great for soothing a distressed infant. As parents you will be taught how to perform the easy reflexology techniques to help your baby or toddler. These techniques can aid with feeding, digestion, sleeping, comforting, general wellbeing, as well as eye, ear, nose complaints and teething pains.
When performed on young babies (4 weeks – 7 months) the techniques are performed on the feet with a feather light touch as babies are very sensitive and receptive. When performed on slightly older babies (8 months – standing without support but still not walking), the techniques are performed on the hands using nursery rhythms. During this time, you will have a chance to spend quality time with your little one whilst at the same time knowing that you are helping them feel better, more relaxed and reducing their discomfort and pain.
Once you have learned the techniques from your therapist, you will be able to perform them on your baby every day, if necessary. It can take as little as 15 minutes a day to perform the techniques which can be done before bath time, before nap time or any time convenient to the parent and child.
Maternity Reflexology
There are many benefits to having foot reflexology during this special time. Receiving reflexology before, during and after pregnancy can help you stay calm, balanced and more in control.
Before becoming pregnant there is a time where a woman can take certain steps to be healthier and prepare for conception and the pregnancy journey. This of course, also applies to the dad to be! It’s at this time that you can start receiving reflexology and continue to do so during the whole process including post pregnancy. There are different techniques used to help with morning sickness, fatigue or tiredness, constipation, headaches, anxiety, backache, heartburn and many more.
Reflexology is very versatile and the techniques are adapted individually to each client, taking into consideration the medical history and progress of the pregnancy. It is not used to replace conventional care but to work with you during this time to enable you to have a better experience.
Your reflexologist will do their best to help you relax and apply the techniques necessary, which could be specific or more general. After all, the body is a whole, where all organs and systems work in unison. Reflexology is a holistic therapy that looks at the body as such so the main aim is to find balance and health.
Pregnancy Massage
The benefits of pregnancy or pre-natal massage include a wide range of physiological, emotional and psychological benefits. Pregnancy massage creates a combination of both relaxing and stimulating messages to the receptors that prompt a woman’s body to effectively function during her pregnancy. It also assists in remedying many of the common discomforts experienced during pregnancy such as:
- Muscular discomforts, lower back pain, upper back pain, headaches, leg cramps, sciatica, stiffness, tension and knots, carpal tunnel syndrome, heartburn and acid reflux, fatigue, varicose veins, nasal congestion, shortness of breath, edema of the lower extremities, neck pain, interscapular pain, sciatica and hip joint pain
- Oedema or swelling of the joints during pregnancy is often caused by reduced circulation and increased pressure on the major blood vessels by the heavy uterus. Massage helps to stimulate soft tissues to reduce collection of fluids in swollen joints. This also encourages the removal of tissue waste carried by the body’s lymph system.
- Alleviates stress on weight bearing joints and musculo-fascial structures
- Increases blood circulation, providing more oxygen and nutrients to both mother and baby. It stimulates the lymph system and increases immunity.
- Stabilises hormonal levels and helps relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes
- Soothes and relaxes the nervous system by releasing endorphins into the mother’s body. Due to this, the expectant mother feels more relaxed and at ease, also allowing her a better sleep at night.
- Supports the return of blood to the heart and increases blood flow to the uterus and placenta. With the enormous demands placed on the circulatory system during pregnancy, blood volume may increase up to 60 percent compared to pre-pregnancy levels.
- Prepares the mother to be for delivery with its sedating effect on the nervous system, promoting relaxation and stress relief.
- Offers a natural, safe and drug free alternative for pain relief, since taking medications are often limited during a pregnancy for the sake of the unborn child
- In addition to the physical benefits, prenatal massage provides expecting women with the emotional support and nurturing touch.
