How pollution affects your skin

Thursday, June 11, 2020

When it comes to skincare, there are certain elements that are within our control as well as those that are not. Pollution is something that can affect your skin in a number of different ways. Fortunately, there are a few steps you can take to protect your skin.

Some common effects

When small pollution particles manage to weasel their way into your pores, it can cause several problems depending on your sensitivities. These include dermatitis, eczema, dark spots, reduced elasticity, uneven skin tone and the breaking down of collagen. Your skin will not be as healthy-looking as it once did and you may even start to look older than you are. The good news is that you can take steps to reduce the effect of pollution on your skin.

Clean skin

Keeping your skin clean is the first step to keeping yourself looking your best. Cleansing should be part of your daily routine and you can do so twice a day to keep impurities at bay. Impurities often cause clogged pores so, by cleansing regularly, you will also notice a decrease in the number of pimples.

We have dead skin cells all over our body and we shed them naturally. However, sometimes your body can use a little help in the form of an exfoliating rub. You can exfoliate your face up to twice a week for best results. Remember to always work gently and use natural products.

Toning up

Toner can be used daily and applied gently with a cotton pad. It will help improve the skin tone, restore pH balance and hydrate your skin all at the same time. This is another step that should be part of your daily routine.

Applying serum

These are often oily which means that they might not be suited for everyone. If you are not sure about the right serum for you, it's best to discuss options with a professional. They contain concentrated ingredients that penetrate your skin rapidly. It is important to only apply a serum after cleansing and toning first.

Professional facials

While it is important to keep up with your skincare routine on a daily basis, it is also good to schedule regular facials. Taking time out for a facial once a month or at least once every six weeks will make all the difference. Especially when you choose a professional who uses organic products. If you have any skin problems, you should let them know before they begin. Facials are by no means 'one size fits all'. They can be tailored to your needs and skin type.

By maintaining a regular skincare routine, pollution will not stand a chance! You will enjoy fabulous skin with a gorgeous glow and irresistible beauty. Not to mention the fact that a professional facial will leave you feeling relaxed and pampered.
