Aromatherapy for social anxiety disorders

Thursday, December 03, 2020

If you suffer from social anxiety, you know just how much this disorder can disrupt your daily life. Whether you do not like the idea of taking medication or you have tried without success, it's always worth trying a more natural approach. Aromatherapy can have an amazingly positive effect. Here is what you should remember when it comes to treating social anxiety with aromatherapy.

What are essential oils?
These oils are extracted from natural sources such as plants and flowers. They are highly concentrated and should be diluted before use. These oils can be used in a number of ways in the home and even when you are on the go.

Diluted essential oils
You can dilute essential oils in your bathwater. All you need to do is add approximately five drops of the oil of your choice to the water as it fills your tub. Enjoy a relaxing soak as you breathe in the amazing scent.

Around the house
Oil burners and diffusers are also really handy around the house. If you don't have either of these, you can apply a few drops of the oil on a cotton ball and place it on a saucer somewhere in your home.

Inhaling essential oils
You can take a bottle of your favourite essential oil everywhere you go. Put a couple of drops on a tissue and place it in your pocket so that you can enjoy the scent for hours even when you aren't home. Alternatively, you can buy an aromatherapy bracelet or necklace.

Massage with essential oils
Essential oils can also be applied to the skin. In this case, it is very important that the oil is mixed with a carrier oil to reduce the concentration. When applied to the skin, it will soothe the body as well as the mind all at once.

When shopping around for essential oils to help with stress and anxiety, you will notice that there are a number of options. Some of the top choices include lavender, lemon, ylang-ylang, chamomile and rose. You can even combine more than one type of oil if you want added benefits.
