Common foot problems in summer

Thursday, June 03, 2021

When the weather warms up, it can be easy to fall into bad habits. As good as some of them might feel, there are several common problems that can occur if you don't take proper care of your feet. Here's what you should avoid if you want to keep your feet looking and feeling great.

Going barefoot

Sure, you can walk around barefoot around your home if you like. However, it is important to remember that your arches need support or you will eventually start to feel the pain. Not only this, but walking around outdoors without shoes increases your chances of injury. You never know where a thorn or piece of glass could be hiding.

Poor shoe choice

There are good shoes and bad shoes out there. Sandals and high heels might look cute with a particular dress. However, they do not offer your feet the support they need. Not only does this affect your feet, but the effect can radiate all the way to your back! If you are suffering from back pain, take a look at your shoes.

Higher temperatures and increased activity in the summer mean that many people suffer from swollen feet. Since salt consumption often translates to water retention, it is best to avoid eating too much salt and make sure that you stay hydrated. A cold foot soak can also help if your feet are swollen.

If you find that your feet are especially sweaty in the summer, you can try using the same products you use on your underarms. If this does not help, ask your podiatrist to recommend a specialised product. If this still does not work, you can consider Botox treatments on a regular basis to reduce sweating.

These are just a few of the most common summer foot problems. Remember, you should also give your feet a break from time to time and schedule a professional pamper session. Regular pedicures will not only have you feeling great, but they will also help boost your confidence since your feet will look their best in your favourite pair of shoes.
